Driving in Las Vegas? Know These Key Traffic Rules First

Whether you’re a tourist cruising the Strip or a local navigating daily traffic, understanding Las Vegas traffic laws can save you from tickets—or worse, a serious accident. Naqvi Injury Law shares key legal tips every driver should know before hitting the road in Southern Nevada.

1. Speed Limits Vary—So Stay Alert

Speed limits across Las Vegas depend on the type of road:

  • Highways (I-15, I-515): 65–70 MPH

  • Major city roads (like Tropicana Ave): ~45 MPH

  • Neighborhoods and smaller streets: 25–35 MPH

Important: Even if you’re under the posted limit, you can still be at fault if conditions (like rain or traffic) call for slower driving.

2. Right on Red? Yes, But…

You can make a right turn on red in Las Vegas—unless posted otherwise. Just remember:

  • Come to a full stop

  • Yield to all crossing traffic and pedestrians

  • Look out for “No Right on Red” signs

Failing to yield can result in both a ticket and legal liability in an accident.

3. U-Turns Are Allowed (Usually)

Generally, U-turns are legal in Las Vegas unless prohibited by signage. But even if legal, safety is your responsibility. Unsafe U-turns can lead to reckless driving charges if they result in a collision.

Local rules may differ slightly from what you’re used to. When in doubt, slow down, yield, and look for posted signs. A little extra caution can protect you from legal and financial consequences, especially in a busy city like Las Vegas.
